Planning outfits for your autumn family photoshoot in Amsterdam doesn’t have to be hard if you follow my three tips!
Choose Neutrals or Pastels for your Fall Family Photo Outfits
My style is centered around light and airy imagery. Flowy skirts and cozy sweaters are cornerstones of fitting into my portfolio. In my years as a photographer, I’ve learned that dark and bold colors will reflect light back onto your skin, and will discolor your face. If you want bright and clear skin tones, then opt for neutrals or pastels.
This is especially true in fall, when the leaves are already showing out in bright and bold colors. The last thing you want is for your red sweater to clash with the red leaves behind you!
Coordinate, but don’t all wear the same color outfit for family photos!
During your session, I prompt you to hug and get close. You don’t want your family to look like a blob of one color. Mixing textures and different shades of neutrals makes for a cozy color palette you’ll never get tired of. Heavier textures like sweaters pair wonderfully with lighter textures like lace or chiffon.
Choose comfortable and simple accessories to complete your fall family photo outfits
I don’t know about you, but uncomfortable shoes put me in a bad mood. Your kids are the same way! Plus we’ll be doing and running and playing a lot during our session, so you want them to be able to run without falling. Same with you! Don’t pick a stiletto heel, instead opt for a platform or a sleek ankle boot.
For jewelry, opt for something simple and timeless, something that won’t overpower your natural features. I want to focus on your baby’s arms around your neck, and that’s harder to do if you’re wearing a thick chain or heavy bangles.

My favorite place to shop for women’s outfits is Needle and Thread. They have an amazing collection of dresses that are designed for motherhood. My absolute favorite, favorite children’s clothing provider is Donsje. All their clothing is functional with a fairytale feel, which if you can’t tell, is totally my thing!
