I'm beginning to think this whole motherhood photography thing was just a roundabout way of making new mom friends, because that's my favorite part of this business! I moved to a new city right before I had my first son and motherhood hit me like a ton of bricks.
Postpartum anxiety and sleep deprivation made the newborn phase the hardest time of my life, but it was my "mom-friends" that made all the difference. I'll never forget the feeling of the first time a mom-friend came over and told me all about how her baby boy (then 2) slept all night and that the sleep deprivation would eventually pass.
Supporting moms while I document their motherhood journey is the "why" behind Sim Sawyers Photography, and I hope you'll invite me to document yours.

I'm obsessed. I go to bed dreaming of swirling pastels. The way the light catches in your dress, your toddler leaning in to plant a slobbery kiss on your nose. Those chubby six-month baby hands with knuckle dimples pulling at your hair. The way they belly laugh, take a breath, and then come back for more tickles. I know what it’s like to already be nostalgic for a moment as it’s happening. It’s bittersweet, having beautiful, perfect babies and knowing one day they’re going to grow up.
I usually feel like a Hufflepuff, but occasionally I have moments where I remember I'm really a Gryffindor at heart. Just picture Neville Longbottom.
Khabi Khushi Khabi Gham
If you don't know, this is an iconic Indian movie with an all-star line up. I make all my friends sit through this 3+ hour masterpiece, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Amitab Bachchan. (DDLJ was a close second. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't recorded SRK saying, "I love you, Simran," and played it back just to sigh.)
My favorite thing to do on vacation is find a local art gallery and buy a small original from a local artist. If I had to put a label on my bottle of happiness, this would be it.

Always a closeted girly-girl, I realized when we found out our second (and last) baby was another boy I couldn’t wait on a daughter to fully embrace all the pink frilly things.
Growing up Indian and American, I have lots of advice for parents raising multi-racial children!
the magic words
"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” —C. S. Lewis
I’m starting to think this whole photography enterprise was just a roundabout way to meet more mom-friends. If you want to bond over bubbling snot noses, the minefield that is toddler logic, and picky eating habits, let’s meet for coffee!
Already know you want to book with me? Here’s the link! (We can of course still get coffee!)
