Gemeente Weddings are so much fun to photograph because no one is stressed, all your guests are SO excited to be there, and the officiants are super enthusiastic. If you’re getting married at the Gemeente, rest assured that this day is still all about you and your fiancé.

I photographed this Gemeente wedding at the Bijlmer Gemeente (Stadsloket Zuidoost at Aton de Komplein 150), and the ceremony room is upstairs. There is an elevator if you or any of your guests need one. The Bijlmer Gemeente is also across from an Albert Heijn if you need to grab a quick snack and a beautiful park for portraits either before or after your ceremony. From first glance, the building doesn’t look like it would photograph well, but photographers are great at making locations look completely different in the photos than they do in real life.

I recommend arriving before the ceremony to photograph family formals, as you’ll want to run off to your reception after instead of taking photos. If you come early, family photos are an excellent way to work though your nerves.

Then, of course, there’s the ceremony. The wedding room is decorated with sheer white curtains and wooden flooring, which gives me a lot to work with as a photographer if you’d like quick portraits during your ceremony window.
When the officiant saw that she would be marrying two brides, she squealed and ran for her rainbow stole.

After the ceremony, we grabbed a couple of couple portraits before the couple headed to their reception.
House Party Reception
Now, for the fun part! Pop the champagne, cut the cake, you’re married! If you’d like, I can come along and photograph your reception. All of these images were taken at a friend’s house where the brides’ reception took place.
Couple Portraits
Because it was raining on their wedding day, they scheduled a mini session after the wedding to get some couple portraits outdoors. These were taken in Erasmuspark in Amsterdam West.
If you’d like to book a small wedding package for a Gemeente or Civil Service Wedding, packages start at €400 and you receive the full gallery of images and up to six hours of coverage. If you are getting married outside of Amsterdam, there is a €50 travel fee as well.
