If you’re an expecting Dutchie in the Holland area of the Netherlands and are looking to get your maternity photos taken, here’s some tips for light and airy, fine art style images that will help you remember this magical time, and some of my commonly asked questions answered.
Bring your older kids and your partner!
Pregnancy is such a special time, and we will definitely get images of you and your belly by yourself. But I recommend my maternity clients bring the whole family to celebrate. You can have your partner bring your older children a few minutes later if you’d like, or they can play off to the side while we work. I’m comfortable either way.
Choose neutral or pastel colors for your outfits!
I have a style guide I send you the moment you book with me, but if you don’t read it (I know you have a lot on your plate), my biggest takeaway is to wear neutrals and pastels! I have a small client closet (see here) that you’re welcome to use free of charge, and if you’d like to donate your dress to my client closet after your session, I will give you a digital image credit.
Lotion your hands and elbows!
You should already be drinking a lot of water, but make to lotion your hands for all the detail shots we’re going to take.
Rainbow Babies
If you are expecting a rainbow baby, or have had a child that has passed away, you are always welcome to bring items to remember them by in your session.
Common Questions:
When is the best time to book my maternity session?
Go ahead and book when you’re 12 weeks pregnant to ensure your slot doesn’t fill up.
What month of pregnancy do we schedule the photoshoot for?
We will schedule your maternity photos sometime between 25-35 weeks of your pregnancy so you’ll be visibly showing and full of energy.
What if I’ve missed these dates to schedule my photos?
It never hurts to ask! If I can squeeze you in, I absolutely will. I’ve once photographed a mom and she went into labor the very next morning.
How long is a maternity session?
I don’t put time limits on my sessions. A maternity photoshoot can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours (usually if you’re bringing older children) to get the maternity images you want.
Can I bundle my other sessions with my maternity photos?
Yes! A few times a year, I open up my Motherhood Membership to a few expecting mothers and their families.
As a mother of two, I know too well that everything changes the moment your baby arrives. Time slips away quickly and by the time you get around to scheduling a photoshoot, they’ve already changed into a new stage. With my Motherhood Membership, you get your maternity session, newborn, six months, and one year old sessions already on my books for €500 + VAT.*
This is the only bundle plan I offer, simply because I don’t want you to miss out on documenting your baby’s first year. I know how tough the first year is, and how hard it is to plan beyond tomorrow.
When you sign up for the Motherhood Membership, I make space for you in my calendar on your due date, when baby is 6 months old, and baby’s first birthday. That way, you don’t have to worry about my calendar filling up or remembering to schedule photoshoots as your baby ages. As always, all family members are welcome to join in to celebrate your baby’s first year of life.
I only open my Motherhood Membership a few times a year to make sure I have enough room in my schedule for your sessions, so make sure to inquire about this when you book.
