While I consider the Netherlands as a whole a “Spring” country, Amsterdam is absolutely a “Fall City.” The Amsterdam Canal Houses, the changing leaves, the gleam of fresh rain on the cobblestone, and twinkling lights in the background make for the coziest of backdrops for your photos!
Let me introduce you to this Dutch word: gezellig. It means cozy, but more than that. There’s a social aspect of being with friends, but also feeling complete and in the moment. And snuggling up on the Amsterdam canals absolutely fits that bill.
BYOS: Bring Your Own Stroopwafels!
You should absolutely bring some stroopwafels to your fall photoshoot with me! (I swear by the biscotti ones at Melly’s Stroopwafels!) I will bring the clear umbrella!

Our Story
My family and I moved to Amsterdam from the US in the fall of 2023, right before Halloween and Sint Maarten’s Day. We had spent the last four months traveling South and Central America, and landing here was such a rush of emotions.
We were finally “home,” but not home. We were beyond ready to settle down, but came home to an empty apartment and a completely blank life. Everything was up in the air. We had a couch and a table from the previous tenants, but no beds or chairs. Our real estate agent told us to go to Noord for an air mattress, so off we went, spending hours on the subway when little did we know, we could have walked five minutes to Action and gotten an air mattress there.
These days, we’re still figuring things out, but learning. Learning Dutch, learning to interpret the Dutch weather!
